EVSWA Recycling Program - How's It Working So Far?
After all of the years of waiting, the Estancia Valley Solid Waste Authority has finally begun a viable recycling program that will save all of us money by reducing the amount of landfill space used, will help keep our national resources in good shape, will help keep our county clean, and will full fill a mandate placed on trash agencies throughout the state to participate in recycling.
The new program is just getting off the ground and with all things new, there is some confusion as to what ESVWA can take as recyclable items. I have heard from a few people that items listed on the flyer's as acceptable were refused at the stations.
Being such a new program for ESVWA, it would be a great idea to call their offices for clarification on what items are being accepted as well as for we the public to use a little common sense.
Perhaps EVSWA would consider creating and distributing an itemized list of what they can accept and manage. In the past, I served on a recycling committee (Treasure Traders) and remember that committee working very well together - there were so many great ideas and members of the committee provided their time, talents, and personal monies all to benefit the county. Maybe EVSWA could put together another citizens committee to help define recyclable items and to help educate our county on the benefits and use of a viable recycling program.
There is a huge interest in recycling in our county and it would be shame for folks to get frustrated and give up on it - should this fledgling program fail, we would have wasted a fantastic opportunity to benefit residents and our county as well as the tax dollars that have been granted for construction of the facilities.
Let all get behind our recycling program and help EVSWA make this thing work!

Jungle Prescribed Burn - Planned for Mid-November
Hello Everyone,
Just wanted to let you all know we are planning on completing the Jungle Prescribed Burn tomorrow weather permitting. If you have any questions please give the office a call Thank you
Mountainair, NM – November 15, 2011: Mountainair Ranger District Fire Officials are planning on continuing their Prescribed Burn program. Fire Officials have been monitoring weather conditions and fuel moisture conditions. With the current moisture levels they plan to complete the Jungle Prescribed Burn in the Manzano Mountains this week.
The burn will be on National Forest lands located East of Forest Road #422, North of Forest Road #275 and west of the Forest Road #522. District Fire personnel are watching weather patterns closely and hope to accomplish burning approximately 186 acres some time during the next week to two weeks. The purpose of the burn is to improve watershed and wildlife biodiversity as well as to reduce current fuel loadings and lessen the threat of wildfire to private property. The burn will be conducted only if fire personnel are available and weather patterns are conducive to burning.
If you have questions regarding the planned prescribed burn or any other Mountainair Ranger District questions, please call 505-847-2990 or email Adrian Padilla at adrianpadilla@fs.fed.us or Arlene Perea at atperea@fs.fed.us.

Family Dollar in Mountainair For Sale?
What, Family Dollar in Moutainair for sale? Didn't they just open? I was ask to dispel rumors and supposition surrounding the sale of the Mountainair location. Developers will buy raw land or improved locations to create a leased space for retail or other types of business. Some developers will keep the improved property collecting rents from the tenant, or, they will complete the improvements/upgrades to the property, secure a tenant lease, and then sell either the lease or the property with the lease in place to another party.
The Family Dollar listing in Mountainair is an offering to sell the improved/upgraded property with a lease in place to another party - nothing more. What an opportunity for a local party to own a new building with a great tenant, or for a group of families to consider buying the location to really keep things local. If anyone is interested you can contact the listing agent directly, or I would be happy to help you in purchasing the location. Give me a call at 505-705-0732 or email at George@WhisperingRange.com.
So Family Dollar lovers be of good cheer, our new store will be here for a long time to come as long as we as a community support the store by shopping there.
