4-H Leader Reminders

4-H Leader Reminders
Enrollment Forms—The 4-H Enrollment Deadline is rapidly approaching!! Please continue to turn in enrollment forms to the of-fice as soon as you receive them to ensure that youth and leaders are actively enrolled in the program. Enrolling ensures youth are eligible to participate in 4-H events and activities.

Club Sign In Sheets– Thank you to all the leaders who have been turning in monthly club meeting sign in sheets. They can be sent via email, fax, snail mail or you can drop them off at the 4-H office. The sign in sheets should be turned in prior to the next months meet-ing. This is to ensure 4-H youth are members in good standing for participation.

Club Reporters- Please ensure your club reporter sends in a monthly 4-H Meeting/ Activity report to be showcased in the county newsletter. This is an opportunity to inform everyone of what your club is doing. The reports need to be turned in to Sudie at tor-rance@nmsu.edu by the 25th of each month. Good Job reporters for completing the and turning in reports!

Home Ec School Delegates please be on the look out for informa-tion coming from the State 4-H Office. Please read the letter carefully, if you have questions, please do not hesitate to call me. This year we have two Junior Instructors attending and 12 participants! I will be making arrangements for transportation to and from the school, but since we have quite a few participants, we may need parents to transport kids as well.

I would also like to commend all the youth who participated in the Welcome to NM 4-H Workshop, we learned a lot about 4-H and worked hard on picture frames to exhibit at fair. Thank you to our Jr. Leaders, Aubri Wrye, Moises Anaya and Marlie Neish for providing an eventful team building activity.

GENE's CORNER

GENE’S CORNER

There are a lot of activities in March, so be sure to check the 4-H Calendar! Shooting Sports -

One important event is a meeting for everyone enrolled or interested in Shooting Sports. The meeting will be on March 18th immediately following the 6:00pm County Council meeting. Mike Trujillo, Marcus Trujillo, and I recently attended shooting sports certification. We are all certified in rifle, pistol and shotgun. We’re looking forward to building a strong 4-H shooting sports program in Torrance County. Be sure to attend if interested.

Livestock Judging -
Don’t forget about 4-H livestock judging practice. Check the calendar for dates and times.

County Fair -
Steer and Heifer tag-in day for County and State Fair will be March 28th at the county fairgrounds from 5:00-8:00pm. If you plan to show at either fair, you must attend this tag day. Call the office if you have any questions.

We have received several questions about the fair this year. We are happy to answer questions that we can, any parents and 4-H members with questions or concerns about the Torrance County Fair are encouraged to attend the fairboard meetings on the sec-ond Tuesday of each month at 6:00pm in the County Courthouse.

4H Enrollment Deadline -

Torrance County Hosts 2013 District Horse Show

Torrance County is proud to be the HOST County for the 2013 District Horse Show. The event will take place at Rockin Horse Arena on Saturday, June 15, 2013. Please save the date to volunteer your time to assist with the Show. It would be nice to see all the clubs help with this event. Entry forms will be on the website or if you would like a hard copy please contact our office.

Horse Certificates

The Horse certificates are one of those documents that 4-H members enrolled in the horse project need to do every year. The horse certificate is a form similar to a registration form. You can find it on the Torrance County 4-H website.

They are due by April 1st to the county extension office (Not the state office). We get asked why do 4-H’ers have to submit a certificate every year? Horses get sold, traded and or leased. It is strongly recommended that 4-H members submit a horse certificate for any horse that they may have to use as their project for the year.
