"We are the Martinson Family from Vero Beach, FL and we discovered Mountainair in 2004 via the Internet when we suffered through many hurricanes, lost our roof & we were in search of a different place to live.
We finally were able to travel to Mountainair and we were not disappointed, in fact we have fallen in love! The town & the folks who live there are wonderful.
The Martinson Family"
I met the Martinson family while publishing the old Country Chronicles back in 2004. Rene and I have emailed each other every since and it was a such a treat to meet Rene and her family. The Martinson family works as part of a ministry in Florida with puppets. Maybe on their next visit the Martinson Family could introduce Mountainair to their puppet family.
Come back any time folks!

My One and Only Films In Mountainair
Hollywood visits Mountainair! The upcoming movie . . . "My One and Only" visited our fair community for few days of location filming. (Residents inside Uncle Walters watching scene set up and filming) . . .
Through the magic of Hollywood (actually the hard work of film crews) store fronts along Mountainair's US 60 were transformed and transported back to the 50's . . .
Film crews at work and play . . .
Vintage vehicles used for filming . . .
The movie stars Rene Zellweger (photo below) and Kevin Bacon is scheduled for release in 2009.
Thanks to the cast and crew of My One and Only for filming in Mountainair - You All Come Back Again Any Time!

Domestic Well Permit - Longer Wait Periods
Many of you may have read articles over the past few days regarding a recent ruling by Judge J.C. Robinson of the Sixth Judicial District Court in Silver City. For those of you who have not, here is my interpretation of what I have read.
The Bounds family, generational farmers along the Mimbres River near Silver City, filed suit against the State Engineer's office regarding the issuance of domestic well permits to a subdivision near their family farm
The Bounds suit centers around current domestic well rule - the State Engineers office is required to issue a domestic well permit without a review process, however, for other types of water use the State Engineers office is required to review the applications and render a decision for issuance of permits based on protection of higher priority water right holders.
Judge Robinson's ruling requires the State Engineer's office to follow a review process before issuing a domestic well permit. With short staffing, the turn around time for issuance of a domestic well permit could be extensive. The State Engineers office may appeal Judge Robinson's ruling - only time will tell. If you are looking to buy or sell your unimproved land or if you are contemplating subdividing your land, you might want to give a call to the State Engineers office for complete information and permit application requirements.

How Much Rain Are You Getting?
How much rain are you getting? Thought it might be interesting to see if others would comment on this post and say how much rain you have been getting and where you are at.
As for our family (Lelan & Segan giving thumbs up on the rim of our tank) - just this past Sunday we were blessed with 1 1/2 inches of rain! It filled up our dirt tank (pond to most new comers) and we were lulled to sleep last night by the sounds of singing frogs!
Hope Everyone Else Is Getting Rain Too - Chime In & Share Your Rain Gauge Readings!

Mountainair Joins the World Wide Web
At long last, the Town of Mountainair has joined the on line world! The web site should offer another resource for our community to be noticed as well as for more people to obtain information regarding the Town. (http://www.mountainairnm.gov/)
Web Master Dennis Fulfer has done a very nice job in setting up the new web site - check it out and let Dennis know what you think! (His email is link on the home page under "contact us" - just a quick click and you can email Dennis).

Beware Charismatic Men Who Preach 'Change'
Check out this oustanding opion piece that will make you think! (click here--> Beware Charismatic Men Who Preach 'Change'). The link should take you to a Letter to the Editor of the Richmond Times - Dispatch that offers a reflection on the current election-year rhetoric from a gentleman that escaped Communist Cuba in 1968. An outstanding opinion piece that will make you think and hopefully ask more questions of the current candidates!
After reading the Letter to the Editor I read other articles on inRich.com (http://www.inrich.com/cva/ric/home.html) - I think inRich.com is an outstanding news source with very well written articles! I hope that many of you will check it out. To be well read is to be well informed!
