USDA FOREST SERVICE 2011 SUMMER INTERN PROGRAM RECRUITMENT BULLETIN

Application packages must be submitted to: recruiter@fs.fed.us. No mailed applications will be accepted.
 
All applicants will receive a letter notifying them if they were selected or not for an internship position.

What is the summer intern program?
The Summer Internship Program is targeted for College Students OR High School Seniors currently graduating (Class of 2011).  All students must be in a “good academic standing” status; cannot be on academic probation.  Students will work for the Forest Service’s, Business Operations Staffs located in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  These staffs include: Human Resources Management (HRM), Budget & Finance (B&F), Acquisition Management (AQM), Civil Rights (CR) and the Chief Information Office (CIO). 

These paid internships will last 8 weeks (4 pay periods).
 
What is the Student Temporary Employment Program (STEP)?
This program provides students the opportunity to learn what it is like to work for the Forest Service, while gaining valuable first hand work experience and earning money.  The STEP provides maximum flexibility to both students and managers because the work duties assigned to the students do not have to be related to the student's academic or career goals. 

Eligibility requirments:
·         Must be at least 16 years old.
·         Must be enrolled in an accredited High School.
·         Must be enrolled in or accepted to (with the intent to attend) an accredited college or university, graduate or professional school; and carry at a minimum, a half-time course load as defined by the institution. Must be in a degree seeking academic program.
·         Must be a United States citizen or national. 
·         Must be in a “good academic” standing status.  Cannot be on academic probation.
·         If selected, must sign Student Agreements
Salary/Pay:
Salaries may vary from a GS-2 which is paid $10.98 per hour to a GS-3 which is paid $11.98 per hour. The GS level is based on a student’s qualifications.  To qualify for a GS-2, a student must have a high school diploma or equivalent.  To qualify for a GS-3, a student must have completed 1 academic year of post-high school study.
Duties:
Under guidance, students will perform various tasks assigned from personnel within the Business Operations staff area they work in.  Some student may be assigned specific duties that are dependent upon the occupational specialty that corresponds with the student’s college major to provide specialized work experience for the student.

A complete application package MUST include:
·         A Cover letter to include information about the student and why they want to work for the Forest Service
·         A current resume with references
·         Up-to-date college transcripts OR a High School report card.  Unofficial transcripts/reports cards or copies will be are accepted if legible.
·         Letter of Acceptance or Letter of Enrollment.
·         DD214 (Copy 4) or other relevant documentation, if claiming Veteran’s Preference
·         Please DO NOT put Social Security Numbers on any documents!!!
