Swearing In Ceremony - Rescheduling Information

Happy Holidays! White Holidays ;-)

 As you know, we cancelled the swearing-in ceremony on December 5th due to inclement weather. We are now working to reschedule it, however, our motivational guest speaker from Canada, Alvin Law, would still like to join us (free of charge) so the date will be contingent on when he’s in New Mexico next, which most likely will be sometime in February.

 I met with Alvin and in order for his message to reach a larger audience we are anticipating setting up an ‘assembly’ type of ceremony, so that what he has to offer will touch more lives. In order to do that, of course we’ll need a bigger place to hold the ceremony. Right now, we are looking at holding it at the Estancia High School gym (maybe a 2pm school assembly event) and inviting the middle and upper elementary schools, however (were checking with Principal Weidner to find out if that meets with his approval). The judges will still attend to swear in the newly elected 4-H Council, Larry Graves will still provide his presentation, and Audrey Rodriguez will still do her honorarium to Alfonso, it’ll just be at the school gym. As soon as the location, date and time are determined, we’ll let you know….thank you for your patience!!! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

4-HHorse School and District Horse Shows

Horse School although the numbers are small, The school will continue, but not without a few adjustments. I have shortened the schedule so that the school will end on Thursday (6/16) instead of Friday. We will use 4 arenas instead of 5 and I have cut the number of instructors. Expo New Mexico is working with the State 4-H Office to rewrite the contract to meet the adjusted schedule in an effort to make the school successful. Confirmation letters have been sent to those attending the school with these changes.

As far as the EHV-1 issue. I have been monitoring the status and talk with Dr. Wenzel at least once a day. As of this moment the school is still on. If the situation should change I will send out a high priority e-mail. As of the latest up-date, it has been recommended to continue to hold off with major horse events and activties. This will put the date to June 3, 2011. It is the position of the State 4-H Office that any 4-H equine activities follow the recommended guidelines sent out by the state vet.

District Horse Show are still scheduled as well.

Attention 4-H Project Kids: Introduction to Showmanship Class

Attention 4-H Dog Project kids: Here’s an Introduction to Showmanship Class

Saturdays April 2 – June 4, 2011 6 P.M.

An eight week conformation class offered through Sandia Dog Obedience Club will teach you how to handle your own dog in an AKC conformation show. Class will cover equipment, handler attire, ring procedures and handling techniques.

SDOC is an AKC member club and sponsors AKC events. All classes meet at our large obedience & agility training complex conveniently located off of I-25 & San Antonio Exit. Turn East on San Antonio to San Pedro (turn North one block to 7050 San Pedro NE, Albq. NM 87109). Saturday, November 13th at the Shiver Ranch

(Firearms and Ammo will be provided)

• NRA  Firearm  Familiarization / Safety  Overview
• Clay  Shooting
• Pheasant  Hunt
• Age Groups:  8­-­11, 12-15, 16-18  
• Youth will learn to clean birds.
• All minors must be accompanied by an adult.
• Pheasant Shoot requires Hunter's Education Card
  (NO CARD - NO PHEASNT SHOOT)
• Firearm Familiarization & Clay Shoot (Hunter's Education Card not required)

Drive to the Shriver  Ranch:  Hwy  41  and  Dinkle  Road, Stanley (Take  41  north  from  Moriarty  approximately  6  miles)

Events Schedule: 

• 9:00  a.m.  NRA  Firearm  Familiarization/Safety Overview
  (Breakfast  Burrito/Drinks  will  be  Provided )
• 10:00  a.m.  Shoot  Clays
• 12:00 noon  Lunch  ($5  cash)  Sandwich  with  usual  sides.
•   1:00  p.m.    Pheasant  Hunt  

Do not bring your own firearms or ammunition!  Firearms and Ammo will be provided.
