"And here's something I can tell you now. In the past, legislators have not been very good about following up on projects when they get money for them . . ." "I can tell you that I am a different kind of character here, so, so what's gonna happen here, just fair warning, you know, is that Leanne (Commissioner Tapia) if I give you $75,000.00 for a project I am going to be checking up with you all the time to make sure that you and Leroy (Commissioner Candelaria) got that project done." "And I am gonna want to know why if you didn't get it done."
He goes onto say that he understands that there may not be enough money in the first year to get a project going and that funds are banked for projects, but, "I will be following through on any project I put my name on, I am following through to make sure that project actually gets done in a timely fashion, and under budget, and on time, and I am going to be seriously reluctant to give you more moeny if you didn't do the project right the first time." "I think that is my responsiblity, any one diagree with that?" No one in the audience disagreed and I bet those reading this post dont' either.
"That's one of my promises to you, we are going to try to make these projects work better and get the projects that we are paying for. I think that's only fair because once again, it's your money."
