Torrance County Audit Findings Coming Soon?

At the evening meeting of the Torrance County Commission held June 27, 2012, Commissioner Venessa Chavez-Gutierrez provided copies of a form/letter from the State Auditor requesting someone to be the point of contact and it was indicated that the auditor's office was also seeking additional documents.

Commissioner Tapia said that Commissioner Chavez Gutierrez should be the point of contact because she had ordered the audit without commission approval (a position that is totally unsupported by both the commissions approved meeting minutes and video footage of meeting coverage from the January 11, 2012 commission meeting).  Commissioner Freyburger agreed.

So good, bad, or any where in between findings of the investigative audit may be forthcoming very soon.  To the best of my knowledge, there has been no information presented regarding the investigation by the New Mexico Attorney Generals office - perhaps those findings or at least an update will be coming soon as well.  Video from tonights meeting will be available as soon I can get the uploads completed - possibly by tomorrow evening.

Meeting Reminder

!MEETING REMINDER!

TORRANCE COUNTY COMMISSION MEETS TODAY 9AM
OLD COURTHOUSE BLDG, ESTANCIA.

Thursday, May 19, 2011

Do You Know What Your Torrance County Commission Is Doing?

I attend as many Commission meetings as my schedule will allow and hope that everyone will take advantage of the new evening meeting schedule during its testing period of six months.

County Commission meetings are rarely attended by citizens without a request for some individual action or attendance is based on receipt of a notice of violation from one of the county entities.  For the most part  the only people attending Commission meetings are members of county staff and other governmental agency representatives.

Our lack of attendance and participation grants to our elected officials and county staffers 100% trust, faith, and confidence that our best interests are their primary concern.  In your daily life, is there any one that you would allow to manage your interests without any over site?

It is a shame that we the public do not attend these meetings, I know that the business of government is not the most exciting way to spend your time, but please consider this, our elected officials have no idea of what we the public want or need without input; our elected officials need the citizens help to govern openly, wisely, and fairly.

Please take advantage of these evening meetings.  Below is the first evening meeting agenda for the Torrance County Commission - hope to see you there.

(The following is not the official agenda - please contact the Torrance County Manager's office to confirm accuracy of this agenda.  Agenda's are supposed to be available on the Torrance County Web Site at:  http://www.TorranceCountyNM.org  look for the links on the calendar).
