Manzano Mountain Gun Club Message from Kathleen Clute:
The October meeting of the Manzano Mountain Gun Club will take place this Thursday evening, 10/21, at 6 pm, at Ancient Cities Cafe in Mountainair.
As you most likely know, our zoning request for the range has been tabled by Planning & Zoning until their November meeting. One very important item of business at this week's meeting will be discussing how each member or friend can help make the range a reality by supporting our plans through the zoning process. I hope very much that you will come this week.
Jim & Dorothy Greene will have the Friends of NRA tickets available for the Mountainair FNRA banquet on November 20. You can purchase their tickets from them at the club meeting Thursday. Tickets are $25 each or $45 for two. They will also have the tickets for the gun of the year raffle, Kimber rifle in 308 Win. caliber. Those tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25.

Manzano Mountain Gun Club Seeks Special Use District from Torrance County Planning & Zoning Board
.
Members of the Manzano Mountain Gun Club recently signed a 15 year lease with Bill Pohl for location of the clubs the proposed gun range. The site selected is located just off US 60 close to mile marker 194. According to an email issued by the club, they describe the proposed shooting range as, ". . . a U-shaped bowl, with hills on three sides that rise much more than 100 feet from our planned shooting positions". Additional information from the email, updates to range lay design includes a directional change for the 300-yard rifle range, "While the original layout for the 300-yard rifle range aimed toward the Abo Ruins (about 1.25 miles away), the plans have been updated so that no proposed range faces directly toward the Abo Ruins".
The Club has requested a zoning change from Torrance County Planning and Zoning to facilitate the use of leased land for creation and operation of the shooting range. The Club's request will will be considered by Torrance County Planning and Zoning at their next regularly scheduled meeting set on October 5, 2010.

Manzano Mountain Gun Club To Sign Gun Range Lease!
After two years of searching for a suitable location, the Manzano Mountain Gun Club (MMGC) is indicating that they have found a suitable location for greatly the anticipated gun range. MMGC is believes that the lease for the gun range location will be signed at the August 19, 2010 meeting being held at Ancient Cities Cafe 6pm.
"This is our first major accomplishment and the end of the beginning of our club -- the nearly two years that have gone first into finding other "gun nuts" and then into finding property suitable to lease for a gun range. Now we will be working hard for the next few months to bring about the reality of a functional, safe, and very enjoyable club shooting range. And of course, we'll be continuing the process of building and upgrading the range forever, most likely" said Kathleen Clute of MMGC.
News will be shared at the August meeting regarding funding opportunities for the development of the range. Anyone interested in Manzano Mountain Gun Club and is invited to attend the August meeting.
